Mutual of Omaha: Quicker Underwriting Decisions for LTC
06-22-2023
Throughout 2023, the Mutual of Omaha Long-Term Care Underwriting Team has been focused on enhancing the ease of their business practices. Recognizing that lead time and challenges in obtaining medical information have been problematic, Mutual of Omaha is now incorporating medical claims data to assist in the risk evaluation process.
Mutual of Omaha is confident that by integrating this medical claims data into their underwriting toolbox, this will streamline processing and reduce the need for additional requirements. Ultimately, this will result in quicker decisions for you and your clients.
Effective June 20, 2023, Mutual of Omaha will begin ordering medical data for all applications and review it prior to ordering any interviews or medical records. Please take note of the following important updates regarding this process:
- Mutual of Omaha will no longer auto-order medical records. Records will only be ordered at the underwriter's discretion.
- For clients aged 59 or younger, Phone Health Interviews will no longer be automatically ordered. They will be ordered only when necessary and at the underwriter's discretion.
- For clients aged 60-64, after a review of medical claims data, we will order a Phone Health Interview with cognitive screening which will be conducted by phone.
- For clients aged 65 and older, after a review of medical claims data, we will order Face-to-Face Assessments.
